2010!

Holy gosh! Another year has passed already! I think I'm fairly impressed with the amount of growth that happened for me during this past year. I'm definitely a different person that I was at the same time last year. My style has evolved, my taste in music has changed.... well actually, I think almost everything has changed! I'd have to say that living on my own on that small lovely island was a huge period of growth for me. I learned a lot about myself and other people. It was probably the best summer I've had, yet! I'm excited for the rest of my summers though, too.
So, my lovelies, what are your plans for this coming year? The start of a new decade, wow! My plans are...
  • To finish my college prep so I can go to university. My boyfriend and I have plans to move to New Zealand in this coming winter so I can go to the University of Christchurch! How exciting is that?
  • To save up some money! I just found out that my hours have been cut at my current job and I get a whopping 3 hours a week of work. Lame. I need more income than that if I want to travel everywhere!
  • To go completely vegetarian. I've been cutting out a lot of meat and crap from my diet, but I still have a long way to go. One of my boyfriends' roommates is vegan, and she's a huge inspiration to me.
  • To focus on more positivity. I think I'm going to make an appointment with someone and try to figure out why I'm so down all the time... but in the meantime, I'm sure thinking about happy things would be a good start.
  • To learn how to drive! I have had a car for a year and a half and it's just disintegrating in my shed. I really need to practice driving and get over my anxiety of driving! Plus, if I get my Novice driver's license (able to drive by myself or with one passenger that's not family), I would be able to drive in New Zealand for a year! And that would be really handy!
So that's all I can think of right now. What about you? I'd love to hear from you! ♥ ♥ ♥

Bleh.

Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of interesting material here on my blog! I've been feeling super down for the past while. Like, to the point where nothing seems to make me happy. I'm constantly tired, sore and irritable, and it's really causing a strain on all of my relationships. I really don't know what to doooo... So is my blog going on hiatus? Probably not. I'm just giving you a heads-up. Lovelovelove! ♥

Merry Christmas!

Hey all, merry Christmas! Hope you got everything your little hearts desired. I sure did! I got a whopping three different hoodies, which is awesome because I am totally a hoodie addict. And chocolate. Oh, there was much chocolate to be had. Until I ate it all. Anyways, I really should be helping prepare dinner... I just snuck away to "tidy my room," hehe! Love!

ps. AH! While it`s still applicable! From my friend Shae`s facebook:

lalalalove music!

So I said like, forever ago that I would make a post on my love for grunge music. Finally, that time is here! It just took so long because you know, I'm a lazy butt. Oh well!
I guess by now you probably have an idea that I love hip-hop. The way the rappers can put words together so poetically absolutely blows my mind. And really now, I love all types of music! But sometimes I crave something a bit more raw- and that craving is satisfied by my beloved grunge music (and all of its relatives!) I know I was just being born during its heyday, but it still provides a nostalgia to me for a better time, when musicians wrote what they felt, not just what would sell records. The heartfelt singing and dirty guitar riffs... aah. I love being home alone so I can jump around the house, headbanging and singing along. It's such a liberating feeling! Plus, I totally love the fashions from that era. It totally focused on comfort and practicality, which is something I can vouch for. Nothing beats snuggling up in a warm flannel shirt, some long johns, well-worn pants and combat boots.
Anyways, I just wanted to share some of my favorite songs in this genre. Maybe you can try jumping around your house and singing along too!
Yeah! I hope you enjoy it all!
PS. My boyfriend looks like the reincarnation of Layne Staley of Alice In Chains fame. Coincidence? Perhaps.

Haha see? Crazy. ♥ ♥ ♥
Have a wonderful day, lovelies!

Holiday Wishlist!

Hey everybody, happy holidays! I love this time of year because I absolutely adore giving gifts. So far I've got my mom an awesome present (I won't say just in case she reads this!), my boyfriend like, a whole new wardrobe, and my BFF... well, I've gotten her a whole bunch of rad stuff. Giving presents is so fun! Anyways, since tomorrow's my birthday and Christmas is around the corner, I've decided to share my wish list with you! Joy!

-Anything from Sock Dreams. Yumm. Really cozy tall socks? Super cute thigh-highs? Awe yeah!

-A Year In Yes. I love calendars. This might possibly be the best one in existance! I want to order a few and give them to my friends.

-These Skingraft Garter Bags. What would I put in them? Where would I wear them? Who gives a frack. I wannnnnt them. (Though they're sold out, boo!) And a pockety-belt, too.

-A funky camera. I love taking pictures, and getting the film developed is so suspenseful... eeeh. Absolutely wonderful!

Oh! I almost forgot! Avril Lavigne's Black Star Perfume! Kay, so maybe I'm a sucker for the advertising. But seriously, it smells so good! I adore my Gwen Stefani perfume, but it's really pungent and makes me smell like I've bathed in tanning oil. Black Star is much more subtle and it smells amazing!  Plus, it's not overly pricey. Loooove.
Yeah! Awesome! What do you want this year? ♥

What I Wore - ?? & Nov. 24

I wore this to check out the auction with my mommy. I nearly froze to death- but posing on all the vintage furniture? Totally worth it!
-Sparkly Gold Awesome Dress ($2, Thrift store) I got this thanks to a now-ex boyfriend about a year ago. It's amazing. The fabric is pretty itchy and uncomfortable, though. Poo.
-White shimmery tights ($4, Incognito) Sparkly. Lovely. 'Nuff said.
-Brown Dr. Martins ($4, Thrift store) I recognized the clear-ish rubber soles of these peeking over the edge of a high shelf, and nearly had a heart attack. The only problem is they give me hella blisters. Oh well!
-Black flower headband (50c, Ardene) This thing makes me feel like a fancy model. Supa cute.

I really need to get a tripod or a photographer or something. Rawr!
-Joe stretchy stripe dress ($20, Superstore) I really don't wear this dress enough. It's so cozy! And stripey. ♥
-Tights, see above!
-Black over-the-knee socks - ($3, Ardene) These are so cute. Unfortunately they are made for little girls and are cutting the circulation off to my legs.
-Black faux suede pumps (Not pictured, Payless shoes, $20) Hm. Lovely shoes. I might switch up for some black flat boots when I go out though, in the name of comfort!

And that is what I am wearing. Mmmm.

TiLT!

Hey everybody! Happy thursday! You've almost made it through the week, hurrah! So, things I'm loving at this very moment are:
- How when my boyfriend goes to work early in the morning he gets an extra blanket and tucks me in :3
- Girl Talk! One of my fave dj's. I know he does everything on a laptop, but still, it's AMAZING. Check him out.
- Cupcakes! They're so good. I'm making rainbow sprinkle ones later today and decorating them with dinosaurs.
- Power outages! Okay, so they totally suck when you're trying to get something done that involves electricity, but there's something so fun about sitting in the dark with candles and an acoustic guitar. Glee.
- Buying Christmas presents. I hate how commercialized the holiday is (my work started playing Christmas music last week, blech!), but  I absolutely adore giving other people gifts that they love. Hehe. If I had the cash I would be buying everyone presents all the time!
- Finishing Season 2 of Heroes. Awwe yeah. I am so so so excited for Season 3!
- Houseplants. I went out and bought two the other day to liven up my room- Thickus Stickus the Ficus, and Pinkypoo the Dracaena. I lovers them. :)
So, my lovelies, what are you loving this week? ♥

Burrr!

Hello all! Are you enjoying the fall weather? It is freakishly windy out here, and so cold! I think it's supposed to snow soon... eek. Anyways, why don't we inject some positivity into our chilly autumn days by listing stuff we're loving right now! YAY!
  • Orange pekoe tea. I really can't have a good day unless it starts with a travel mug full of hot delish tea. Nothing smaller will suffice.

  • Verhext - This blog is super amazing! It has such a creepy/crazy cool feel to it! I lovelovelove the music she puts on sometimes.
  • Farmville - Uh oh, I'm addicted. It's this dumb game on Facebook (to which I am also addicted) where you have a virtual farm... silly, no? Then why can't I stop checking on my crops?!

  • Maybelline Metallique Eyeshadow Quad - It's really all I wear anymore. That and brown-black mascara. How boring am I?

  • Krafty Kuts' These Are The Breaks - A great compilation. I love it. If you like hip-hop, breaks, and good dancin' musics, check it out! One of my fave tracks: Ill Culinary Behaviour. It's kinda cute!
  • Cheap champagne - Yumm. $12 for 1.5L of La Scala Spumante? Yes pleaaase.
  • Heroes - I am SO INTO this show right now. I just finished watching all of Season 1 and have just started the second season... Ah! I love it so much! Except for Sylar's eyebrows. Something about them just drives me batty. note: I just finished a couple discs of the second season and... I think they gave Sylar some eyebrow grooming. Seriously. I couldn't love this show any more!
Okay that's all I can think of right now. Toodles! ♥~

What I Wore - November 9, 2009

Hello lovelies! Today is the day that I DO things! I actually got up at a decent hour, made breakfast and took vitamins... I'm so proud of myself! Hehe. Anyways, I'm going to be busing downtown at some point, and this is what I decided to wear today.
  • Ghostbusters shirt (Winners, $12) I bought this for my boyfriend but it looks better on me.
  • Grey thermal shirt (My mom's closet, free hehe) I stole this from my mom. I think she got it when she lived in Alberta in the 80's. It's so worn in and comfy!
  • Sparrow necklace (Icing, $9) This is cute. It's also cheap and all the "gold" wore off. Dang.
  • Weird braided leather belt (My mom's closet, free) It says Levi's on it. It's funky. I love it.
  • Grey poofy skirt (Some drunk girl, free) The tag says Ardene. Oh well, free stuff is free stuff!
  • Two layers of tights (??) Gotta stay warm!
  • Brown leg warmers (Ardene, $5) Mmm, cheap and warm
  • Brown K9 boots (Shoe Warehouse, ~$40) These are a size too small, but they're warm and cozy and I'm making them fit.

Yay! And yes, cleaning my messy bathroom is on my list of stuff to do today. I really should get on that though! Love! ♥

Halloween!

Hey everybody! I hope you all had a fantastic Halloween! I'm fairly stoked that I made my costume work out finally... and my boyfriend let me dress him up like Dr. Frank n Furter! It was quite possibly the scariest thing I've ever seen. I accidentally seem to have dyed my hair red again- I used L'oreal Color Pulse mousse in Choco Shock... well, it was definitely a shock! (Not very chocolaty though.) It's a temporary dye so it should wash out in a couple washes, though I kind of like it! Anyways, me and my momma are going furniture shopping. TTFN! ♥~

nacho cheese!

I tried sewing my own halloween costume. I failed. It looks like crap, and now I am sad. I miss Cortes, a lot. Now I am unemployed again and just sit around on my ass. This is not a happy time.

Recipe Time - Pumpkin Pie!

Mmm, I love Thanksgiving! Turkey dinner with the family, and most importantly - pie! Usually my mommy makes homemade pumpkin pie every year, but this year I had to make it myself since she cheaped out, haha! It was really simple and easy and delicious! I'm so stoked, since I am cookingly impaired and everything I make in the kitchen usually turns out disastrous.
You will need....
1 can (398mL) pureed pumpkin
1 can (300mL) sweetened condensed milk (NOT evaporated!)
2 eggs
2 tbsp brown sugar
1/2 tsp each: ground cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and salt
a 9-inch unbaked deep dish frozen pie shell

Whisk together pumpkin, milk, eggs, brown sugar and spices. Pour into unbaked pasty shell. Bake in preheated 425 degree (Fahrenheit) oven for 15 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees, and bake an additional 35 to 40 minutes, or until knife inserted near centre comes out clean. Cool, garnish & serve!

Whipped Cream! (Can't forget that, geeez.)
Before you start baking your pie, put a glass bowl and beating device (in my case, metal thingers for my electric beater) in the freezer. Then, when the pie is cooling, take out the bowl/beaters and start beating 250mL of whipping cream on low. While you're beating, add about a capful of vanilla extract, and a tablespoon full of sugar. Continue beating until your whipped cream forms little peaks when you pull the beaters out. Make sure you've turned the beater off first before you lift it up though! Refrigerate until your pie is cool and then chow down, baybee!

Happy thanksgiving everyone! ♥

Autumn

Tomorrow is my last day of work on Cortes Island. After that, I'm packing up and heading back home to Campbell River. I've got an odd mix of melancholy feelings. I'm excited to move back home with mommy, to redecorate my old bedroom, start my pre-university schooling, get back into the loop with my old friends... but at the same time, I feel like I'm leaving a part of my heart behind. I've made such amazing friends over here throughout the summer, and had some absolutely unforgettable times. I learned so much more than I ever would have imagined, too...
It was my first time living absolutely by myself. I feel like I gained such a sense of independence having to cook my own meals, pay for my own groceries, do my own laundry, schedule my own appointments, and so on. I learned to roll my own cigarettes and drink my own beers. I learned how to hitchhike and get around by myself. I learned a lot about how people work. I learned that age is only a number. I learned that beauty can be found in many unsuspected places; In a woodcut clearing at 3 in the morning, beside a Frankenstein Ford blaring heavy metal mayhem with a man wearing a Megadeth shirt and a crooked, naughty smile. In the broken heart of a young actor halfway across the country from his home, softly sobbing while you hold him close and let him know that everything will work out, there are plenty more fish in the sea. Under the gargantuan star-specked night sky, perched on the back of a yacht stirring the phosphorescent ocean with a net and the essence of summer romance with two youthful souls. I found myself surrounded by different, wonderful music. I discovered a love for life that I never expected to find. And I discovered how much of a difference you can see in the world if you simply smile more.
In the beginning of the summer, me and my friend were discussing how everyone told us how much we were going to grow and change in the next few months, and how we really didn't see anything happening. Later, at the end of the season, as we exchanged our goodbyes, we looked at each other and realized that it had all happened right before our eyes- that we were completely different people than had gotten here only a few months before. The changes are amazing and I am so thankful I came here (instead of working at a burger joint in my hometown, which was my other option!). And so I welcome this autumn with a fresh view on the world around me. There are so many opportunities waiting around us- we only have to open our eyes. ♥
Songs of my Summer:
Bob Marley - Redemption Song
Xiu Xiu - I Love The Valley, OH!
Tor/Sufjan Stevens - The Dress Looks Nice on You / Make You Feel That Way (f. Gift of Gab)
k-Os - Superstar, Pt. 1
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Fishing in the Dark
Horse Feathers - Curs in the Weeds
Beulah - Your Mother Loves You, Son
Joanna Newsom - Sadie
Dirt Nasty - 1980 (Haha, some great memories at the lake blasting this... oh, the looks we got...)
Anyways.... I hope everyone had a great summer as well! Feel free to leave me your favorite summer memory... it's fun to reminisce. &heartsl ♥ ♥

Nanners!

Hey guys! Here's an absolutely amazing banana bread recipe I got from my coworker, Jo-anne. She's such a sweetie!

"Going Bananas"
1 1/2 cups Sugar
3 Eggs
3/4 cup Oil
2 cups Flour
2 tsp Baking Soda
1/2 tsp Salt
1 tsp Cinnamon
1 tsp Allspice
2 cups Mashed Bananas
1/2 cup Raisins (or Chocolate Chips!)

Set oven at 350 degrees, grease & flour a bundt pan or 2 8x4x3'' loaf pans. Beat wet ingredients, add dry. Bake one hour.

Simple, huh? And it's sooooo good! ♥
Have a wonderful day lovelies!!!

What I Wore - September 11 2009

Greetings, mon petit chous~ I just wanted to give you a peek into my wardrobe, as of late. I've found that over the summer my personal style's changed quite a bit- it's crazy! Most of the clothes I own are destined to go to the free store 'cause frankly, I never wear them. But anyways, here's what I wore yesterday:Please excuse the ridiculous pose, poor quality and whatever it is I'm doing with my face... I'm still getting used to the timer on my poor old HP Photosmart. Err... I'm wearing:
  • Jacob merino wool sweater - Free store! ♥
  • Blue Stripey Kismet tank - Bootlegger
  • Brown Kismet skirt - Thrifted, but originally from Bootlegger
  • Brown leg warmers - Ardene
  • Brown Doc Marten's - Thrifted!!! ♥ ♥ ♥
And there you have it. I tromped around the island in this, then went back home to Campbell River and went shopping with my BFF! I got this lovely body wash... Kings & Queens Caspar Myrrh! It smells so spicy and decadent... It did make my arms sort of itchy though (Which is odd, since they're mineral oil and paraben free). Oh well, I don't know about you, but I'm willing to make sacrifices for smelling great! Mmmmm. I think it's meant to be one of the boy scents, but I don't care! It was $12 at Shoppers Drug Mart.

Well, I'm off to go buy tropical fish and art supplies with my Mommy! Yay! Have an absolutely fantastical wonderful day, loves!
♥ ♥ ♥

*Update: Apparently the body wash I got smells like Old Spice. That would explain why I like it so much. Great, I spent a ridiculous amount of money on overpriced Old Spice, hahah! Oh well. It still smells lovely.
